Do's & Don'ts

Planting & Growing

Poppies will sprout when temperatures reach the 40°f range. If it should happen, light frost will not harm young plants. It takes 50 to 60 days for the first flowers to appear. Within 3 days the petals fall away and the seed pods begin to develop. It takes 14 days for the pods to reach full size and another 5 to become firm and ready for harvest. Below we have some "Do's and Don'ts" with regard to harvest.

Warning

The papaver somniferum is a plant of many varieties, colours, shapes and sizes. Each year we add something new to our collection and offer for sale the seeds and pods that we grow on our farm. We produce all our own poppy products ourselves except for the Turkish and Iranian imports. It is our desire that our products be enjoyed for their ornamental value only. Any purpose other than this could be considered illegal. The latex (alkaloids) of the papaver somniferum are narcotic and addictive. Collection and use of this substance is both illegal and harmful. Please respect this plant and the laws pertaining to it.
